- In 1791 he joined the revolt in the northern province led by Boukman. Toussaint saw opportunity in the slave rebellion and joined the fight for liberation. He was the leader of Haitian independence movement during the French revolution.
- He helped his his former master escape and then joined the black forces. Toussaint was in charge of 20000 black soldiers. The people of the north obeyed Toussaint's word as it was law.
- The war of knives between Toussaint and Andre Rigaud,a mixed race free person of colour who controlled the south. Toussaint gained victory.
- Toussaint invites the white people back to restore order to the name. He also force labor on the plantations. He basically controlled all saint Domingue.
- Napoleon suspected that Toussaint was plotting an uprising so he sent his brother-in-law ,CHARLES LECLERC to capture Toussaint. then he was sent to France where he was imprisoned and repeatedly interrogated.
- Toussaint died in France, 1803 of pneumonia and malnutrition.
