  • I really want to tell my mom I'm transgender. This is a part of who I am. I'm worried about how she will respond though. Hopefully when I tell her, everything will be ok. I just don't want her to be upset.
  • Hey mom. I have something important I need to tell you. I identify as a girl, not a boy. I'm transgender.
  • My pronouns are she/they and I really like the name Wren
  • I love you so much Wren. I'm so proud that you are my daughter.
  • Thank you for telling me. I know how scary this must have been. What name and pronouns would you like me to use?
  • Hi, my name is Wren! I'd like to try out for the girls soccer team!
  • Once a boy, always a boy! Go try out for the men's team!
  • Unfortunately, you can't play on the girls team because you are trans. You'd have too many advantages and it wouldn't be fair!
  • Gender is what is in your pants! You are still a dude!
  • A transgender person is a person whose gender identity does not correspond with the sex they were assigned at birth. Gender is a spectrum and many gender identities besides male and female exist. Some examples of gender identities outside the gender binary include genderfluid, agender, nonbinary, and genderqueer.
  • Since your daughter is trans, we refuse to help her. It goes against our religious beliefs. Now please leave or I will call security.
  • My daughter is sick! Why won't you help her?
  • Coming out is a term used when LGBTQ+ people share their sexual orientation or gender identity with other people. Being accepted, like Wren was by their mom, has a lot of positive effects on trans individuals. Trans teens who are accepted by family members are significantly less likely to have suicidal thoughts or attempt suicide. Unfortunately, a majority of trans teens do not feel accepted by their families.
  • I'm interested in joining the military! I tried to join last year but I was told I wasn't able to because I'm trans
  • Last year that was true. Luckily, new policies are in place now and all qualified Americans are capable of serving in the military, including trans people!
  • Trans people are often harassed, bullied, and discriminated against due to their gender identity. Florida, for example, is one of nine states that has banned transgender individuals from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity.
  • TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS
  • STOP TRANS HATEPROTECT TRANS YOUTH
  • During his time in office, President Trump rolled back many of Obama's non-discrimination policies. Due to this, transgender people were allowed to be denied services based on their gender identity. Trans people were also allowed to be denied life-saving healthcare and could legally experience discrimination while receiving healthcare due to their gender identity.
  • During his time in office, Trump also banned trans individuals from serving in the military. The Biden Administration has worked to undo many of Trump's discriminatory policies, however. Trans people can no longer be denied healthcare or services and can legally serve in the military. Trans people are also seeing increased representation in government. Sarah McBride is the first trans state senator and Dr. Rachel Levine is the first trans cabinet member.
  • Although the United States has made a lot of progress, trans people still face discrimination and harassment today. Many trans people are attacked and even killed due to their gender identity. In many countries, being transgender is still illegal and has severe consequences. Even though progress has been made, it is important to continue advocating for trans rights and support trans individuals.
