- Montag needs help understanding the books that he has stolen, he visits an old English professor that he met a few years prior.

- Mildred's friends come over to visit and watch TV. Montag gets fed up with them, so he tries to teach them something from his book.

- Beatty finds out about Montag's books, so he confronts him at his house. To save himself and Faber, Montag kills Beatty.

- Montag runs to Faber's house for help. Before leaving, Montag helps Faber to escape from the mechanical hound

- Montag jumps into the river so the mechanical hound loses his scent. Once he washes up on shore, he changes into Fabers clothes.
- Montag meets the drifters, a group of intellectuals that are considered outlaws in their society; they help Montag remember books so they can print them in the future.
