- After Montresor caught up to me and put shackles on my legs, he mentioned an incident I decided to put far behind me. It was about Julia, a young and beautiful woman who, not surprisingly, was my wife. We were in a healthy marriage, that is before I found out she had been secretly seeing someone.
- Once Montresor left me for dead, I got to reflect back on my mistakes and how those actions hurt others. Julia's dishonesty hurt me deeply to the point where I could not see her face without beginning to cry. So as a result, I made up a lie and told the townspeople that Julia had stolen goods from a shop. This was able to ruin anyone's reputation and it did, Julia was banned from entering our home town.
