- One year on her father's birthday, Princess September, like each of her numerous sisters, receives the gift of a parrot in a golden cage. All of them teach their parrots to talk.
- But one morning, Princess September found her parrot lying dead at the bottom of its cage. She cried so much that the Maids of Honor, not knowing what to do, told the Queen.
