- A hundred years ago lived Taniwha, protector of the Rakaia River bank. Taniwha loved how clean the lake was and he would chase fish with his sharp white claws.
- Taniwha had a great life in the bank. There were fish to hunt, the sun was shinning on him and he felt great watching the toi toi go back and forth.
- But one day the NW wind decided to come and blow all the rubbish off the land into the Rakia River bank killing fish so he couldn't chase them.
- Taniwha begged the wind to stop. The wind stoped but then just blew even harder turning the water green from all the rubbish. Next to Taniwha stood a tower of rubbish.
- Taniwha decided to take matters into his own hands he built a dam.Tired he went in the hot pools. A few seconds after he went in, the wind arrived and he was angry. He blew a hole in the dam. The water poured out like crazy. Taniwha was devastated at what he was looking at. The wind won.
