- Hi I'm Emma Smith from Channel 9 News, today, coming from the NSW Health Department, many more people in Australia have died from smoking this year.
- Smoking has definitely been one of the main causes of deaths this year in Australia.
- Yes, unfortunately Emma, it has been said by the health department that smoking has killed around 19,000 Australian's this year.
- Studies show that some of the consequences that lead from smoking are lung diseases, breathing problems and dental issues.
- The NSW government suggests to reduce deaths and prevent smoking , change your routine, distract yourself and choose healthier options to replace smoking.
- To distract yourself from smoking, create new hobbies, play with your pet or read a book.Choose a healthier option than smoking, by chewing gum or eating fruit instead.
- Instead of having a cigarette with your coffee outside, drink coffee inside, and play a game on your phone.
- Many teens can also be peer pressured by their friends.Most smokers are influenced by their friends and family.
