  • Odysseus Returns Home
  • "It's wrong, my friend, to send any stranger packing-even one who arrives in worse shape than you" pg.303
  • Father and Son Reunite
  • "No, I am your father-the Odysseus you wept for all your days, you bore a world pf pain, the cruel abuse of men" pg. 344
  • Odysseus and his crew ended up in the land of the Cyclopes. They ran into a cyclops, Polyphemus, and he killed several of the men. Once he knocked out, Odysseus stabbed him in the eye and blinded him.
  • Stringing the Bow
  • "Here is the prize at issue, right before you, look- I set before you the great bow of King Odysseus now! The hand that can string this bow with the greatest ease, that shoots a arrow clean through all twelve axes- he is the man I follow..." pg. 426
  • After finishing his tale, the king sends him home to Ithaca. Athena disguises him as an old beggar. The swineherd, Eumaeus, welcomes him and gives him a place to stay.
  • Odysseus and Penelope
  • Athena restores Odysseus' normal appearance but Telemachus did not recognize him. Odysseus reveals his identity and the father and son finally reunite.
  • Peace at last
  • Athena gives the suitors a challenge that only Odysseus could complete. She promises to marry whoever successfully completes it. Odysseus volunteers to try and succeeds.
  • The mansion is purged with fire and brimstone. Penelope waited for a secret sign to truly believe it was her husband. Once she knew it was him, they officially reunited.
  • "But the royal couple, once they'd reveled in all the longed-for joys of love, reveled in each others stories" pg. 465
  • The father of the suitor Antinous wants revenge. Odysseus, Telemachus, Laertes and others arm themselves to meet the challenge. The fighting stops and Athena brings peace.
  • "And Athena handed down her pacts of peace between both sides for all those years to come-" pg. 485
