  • 460 B.C: Democitrus was the first one to suggest the idea of everything being made of small units named atoms. He had no research whatsoever to back it up
  • John Dalton, 1803:Created the atomic theory which said atoms cannot be split further and certain compounds are made of different combinations of atoms. He believed that atoms were indestructible and that all atoms of given elements are identical in mass and their properties.
  • Eugene Goldstein, 1885:Discovered positive particles and also noticed that there were particles that had an equal or an opposite charge.
  • Frederick Soddy, 1897:Did an experiment that proved the theory that atoms were indivisible and also discovered that the atom was made of smaller components. He also discovered the electron.
  • Ernest Rutherford 1907:Ernest discovered an element called Rutherfordium. He also discovered the nucleus in 1911 and used a gold foil to discover the modern model of the atom.
  • Robert Millikan, 1913:Found the charge of a single electron using an oil drop
