- SYDNEY WADE: BROOKLYN RAIN:There is a girl. Her name is Jacqueline Woodson, and she lives in Brooklyn, New York City. Woodson is an extremely bored girl, staying inside, not being allowed to play in the rain like she did back in Greenville. She describes Brooklyn as this boring place that doesn’t have the sweet honeysuckle smell, not a single soft squish of pine. . .
- No fun sliding in the grass and being joyful. She now stays inside like her mother told her. She now just sits at the window, making up stories in her mind as she watches the rain fall, hit the glass pane, and make the dark sidewalk, and roads, even darker.
- She watches the people walk by with their heads down. While she’s watching, and making up stories, she’s also remembering when she was in Brooklyn and had her tongue stuck, catching the rain like her Grandma let her. And being in her father’s garden. But now, she is stuck in Brooklyn where it isn’t like home.
