  • Simon's safe place, where he likes to come to enjoy the scenery and run away from conflicts.
  • I am the beast
  • Jack destroys Simon's safe place by beheading a pig and leaving it there.
  • "Lord of the Flies" translates to Beelzebub, which in the bible refers to the Devil or Satan meaning that " The Lord of the Flies "or "The Beast" is actually a demon, the demon inside the boys.
  • The pig's head says, "I am the beast". The deeper meaning to it is that the pig's head represents the boys' evil and savagery indicating that the beast is actually the evil and savagery inside the boys.
  • The Lord of the Flies sees the evil and savagery inside everyone.
  • Simon falls unconscious after looking into the beast's mouth. The deeper meaning is that falling into the evils mouth is going to lead to the boys' death. This also foreshadows Simon's death in chapter 9.
