Hi, my name is Tyler and I just learned that I have something called PA.
If you're like me, you might be thinking, "What is PA?".
Well let's talk about it!
PA is short for propionic acidemia. This means I can't eat certain foods because my body doesn't know how to break them down.
The foods I can't eat have a lot of protein or certain fats. This means I can't have foods like meats, eggs, cheese, milk, and nuts.
I do get to eat a lot of yummy foods though, like fruits, veggies, bread, and pasta like spaghetti!
My body also doesn't like to go too long without food, so sometimes that means eating more often than people around me.
I've learned to love snack time though. I'm learning how to count and measure to keep me healthy!
If I go too long without eating, eat the wrong thing, or get sick I won't feel too good.
Sometimes this means I might throw up, feel really tired, have trouble breathing, or not want to eat much.
When this happens I might need to take a trip to the hospital.
Sometimes that can be scary, but I'm glad I have people who care about me there to make it better.
But with the help of my parents and special vitamins, I can hopefully take these trips less often!
Other than eating differently than some of my friends or classmates. I might be shorter or learn in a way that might be different.
Not everyone who has PA is the same, but one thing we have in common is that we're awesome!
