- Famine was a real danger in Europe, due to bad weather and poor harvests. The Great Famine was the first real crisis or disaster that struck Europe early in the 14th century. Europe did not fully recover until 1322.
- I'm starving!
- We have no food. The crops have been destroyed. We are on rations. We are all starving.
- Following the famine, an outbreak of the deadly Bubonic Plague, known as The Black Death, spread throughout Europe. It was one of the most devastating diseases in human history.
- I'm really sorry, but there isn't a cure for his sickness. I have seen many people with the same issue, we've got nothing so far.
- Is there anything you can do? He's been unwell for weeks!
- There's nothing he can do...?
- People began to catch the terrible disease that was spreading. The disease was carried by fleas that lived on infected rats, that then bit humans. It spread quickly and easily. The weak and hungry stood no chance.
- ARGHHH! I'm so sore
- I'm so tired of vomiting.
- Please. You are his last hope. Can you at least try to help him?
- Hopefully my mask which fully covers my head and neck, these glass eyes, this beak stuffed with herbs to purify the air I breathe, the leather gloves I'm wearing and the leg gown covered with wax will protect me from this deadly disease.
- I tried everything I could... I fumigated our house with herbs, the doctor burst his buboes, I even sat him in the sewers. Rest in peace my son.
