- WWI started in 1914 and Tsar Nicholas II took control of the front line himself but didn’t care about people’s death and provided little resource.Local organizations called the Zemstvos took the responsibility of people’s welfare which should be the government’s role.This made the people very upset and Nicholas II became very unpopular throughout Russia.
- October Revolution
- During International Women’s Day, people start striking work to protest in the streets of Petrograd about food shortages and the war.This movement spread very fast and soon many parts of Russia demanded a solution for this situation.Nicholas II was forced to abdicate his throne as people start pressuring him so members of Duma created a new provisional government to rule instead.
- Brest-Litovsk Treaty
- Vladimir Lenin returned form exile in Switzerland and gave the famous speech calling to overthrow the provisional government about peace , land , bread.This speech resulted in him gaining popular support and the Bolsheviks gaining power.
- Formation of Soviet Union
- Soviet Union is formed!
- The Bolsheviks led by Lenin took control of the winter palace and overthrew the provisional government with it’s leader Alexander Kerensky.He changed and improved many laws so that it benefited the people more.
- A treaty singed by Lenin that ended Russian participation in the world war which resulted in a loss in land , resources , and industry.
- The Soviet Union was created at the end of communist war and Joseph Stalin was elected as the general secretary of the communist party.Lenin died later which resulted in a struggle of power and led to Stalin becoming the leader of the party and dismissed Leon Trotsky who was murdered after exile.
