- After the takeover of Constantinople, Mehmet II, the Sultan of the Ottoman Turks, had converted the Hagia Sophia into a mosque
- With the conversion into a mosque, minarets were added and Christian images were plastered over. There was also calligraphy and manuscripts that were contained within the walls
