The Mayans were a independent City-State and their capital was Tikal. Their kings were considered gods.
The Mayans had a tradition of a ball game that they would try and get a ball through a circle on the side of the wall without using your hands or feet. Whoever won was considered a god and whoever lost the captain of the team was killed.
The decline of the Mayan empire was very mysterious. It is said it was abandoned by warfare, over-farming, and trading disruption.
