Mesopotamia means land between rivers. It was a small piece of land that was in the middle of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Mesopotamia was located in the desert, but you could grow crops there because it was in the fertile crescent. It also had plenty of water because of the rivers.
Politics
Mesopotamian people were polytheist. They believed that there was more than one god. They also believed that the gods caused all natural disasters and if they behaved well then the gods would give them a surplus of crops and plenty of water.
Economics
Hammurabi's code was placed outside the Louvre. It was the first set of laws. The code was very harsh. People most likely didn't break the code because they didn't want to have those harsh punishments.
Social Structure
Mesopotamia was ruled by a king.The kings only ruled a single city though, rather than the entire civilization. City-states with one king were called monarchy therefore Mesopotamia was a monarchy. Each king and city had rules and systems that were personalized by them.
Mesopotamia was a bater-society. They traded to get what they needed. Mesopotamians had specialized jobs, so they had to trade or they wouldn't get what they need.
The king was at the top of the pyramid because he is most known. Then the priest is next. After that are the farmers and clothing makers. Next were the potters. Last are the slaves.
