  • During the 1900's there was a family that lived on a farm. The narrator had a brother named Doodle, who was born with a disability. Doodle isn't direct family, the narrator's aunt, Nicey gave birth to the child, but he was going to grow up with the narrator and his family.

  • "Brother, brother don't leave me! Don't leave me!"
  • Doodle's brother (the narrator) shares his initial opinion of Doodle. Doodle's brother did not like this, he noticed he brother was "weird." The narrator showed Doodle the coffin box, and he was terrified. He made Doodle touch his own death box. After this, the narrator sets his own personal mission to make Doodle look normal to his own personal benefit. With months of training, Doodle learned how to walk, swim, and run.

  • Doodle wasn't feeling very well one morning, and he went outside. He found a scarlet ibis that had fallen from a tree. He told his family, but they didn't do much about the bird, and they continued to eat their breakfast. Doodle was very uncomfortable after this.

  • I'm sorry brother! I'm sorry! I should've never forced you to change. I will accept you the way you are. Doodle, I love you!
  • Doodle and his brother are running home during the storm and Doodle falls causing him to beg his brother to come back for him. However, he is scared by the storm and keeps running even when he hears his brothers pleas.
  • (modified ending) When he hears Doodle’s cry for help he turns around and realizes that he is badly injured. The brother chooses to carry him to safety in his home and Aunt Nicey helps him by applying bandages and stop the bleeding.
  • (modified ending) The brother realizes his wrong doings and feels guilt for Doodle’s accident. He decides to quit forcing him to improve his walking and defeat his disability. “I’m sorry brother, I never should’ve forced you to walk.”
