  • Dreams DeferredBy: Langston Hughes
  • My first impression was curious I really didn't know what to think about it. I think the table refers to the journey from the South to the North for African Americans. I inferred that this poem is about dreams whether they come to light or they crumble. I believe that Langston Hughes chose this title because of his own life and what his fulfilled and broken dreams.
  • Paraphrase
  • I thought the main Ideas of the poem was going for your dreams but sometimes they get skewed. We need dreams to keep motivation in life but sometimes they fall through.
  • I have to leave
  • Connotation
  • Themes
  • He uses the saying crust and sugar over into something sweet meaning that dreams could come true or come into fruition
  • We are leaving for the North
  • Some adjectives I would use to describe this poem is monotone, serious, accurate, and serious. I know because he is asking hard hitting questions for you to think about
  • Last Call!
  • Shift
  • I think the shift comes before "maybe it just sags" because the tone switches to more meaningful interpretation. I think the reader finally gets an understanding of whats going on within themselves and in the poem
  • In the poem there are two themes that I saw. One was dreams because the whole poem is about whether or not your dream will become reality. The second theme is acceptance. Accept that things happen and sometimes dreams can crumble.
  • We made it!!
