What happened to Jack is very sad for his family. He sadly couldn't be saved from ICU.Jack got addicted to vaping after his 2 friends convinced him to try vapes.
Jack's friends heard about his death and stopped vaping and told everyone to stop because of what happened to Jack. Luckily only 12 people under the age of 18 have died from the illness, in NSW.
Jack died of a horrible illness caused by vaping. It is a lung cancer called EVALI, which made Jack have shortness of breath and then he died of lack of oxygen. If he didn't die he could also have fallen ill with popcorn lung which would have made Jack wheeze, cough and have shortness of breath too. A third disease Jack could have caught cardiovascular (heart) disease which would have had symptoms like chest pain, numbing of legs and/or arms, fatigue and swollen limbs which are only some of the symptoms
Some ways of stopping vaping are enforce the need to get a medical certificate to purchase vapes. This would minimise the risk as kids would not be able to get vapes easily. You shouldn't be able to find vapes in cheap service stations and only find them in chemists. Make the packages more bland so that teenages don't think that they are toys or fun.
