  • November 1984. My older sister Cynthia and I have come here with an open mind. Cynthia says everything will be okay but I miss our parents. Zozo, my mother's best friend is very nice but their family's way of life was very trivial to my life in Iran. Even though they were sending us to a boarding house, we were still in hope for a good independent life.
  • It definitely wasn't but I knew she was trying to be a good sister.
  • Yeah. It I think I am starting to get used to it here. How About we Go to the supermarket?
  • This space is comfortable...
  • We went to the super market and unlike the supermarkets in Iran, these were packed with supplies! Little did i know we would be eating pasta for the Next 4 years.
  • As much as I want to, we just can't afford that right now.
  • But I am hopeful to get a job so life can be more comfortable.
  • Can we get detergent, snacks and this poster?
  • Oh okay.
  • We have each other on this journey so there is no need to rely on other people.
  • I don't know what I would do without my sister. She is my hero.
  • (German)
  • During the school year, we stuck together. We wanted to stay true to ourselves while on this journey.
  • After the war had ended and it was safe for us to return home, both my sister and I felt very accomplished. We had gotten through our education together (even though I got expelled once). Although it was tempting, I never tried drugs due to how my sister scared me out of it. We were reunited with our parents and we still continued to be close in Iran.
