  • Mr. Steu, lately I have been really sad, getting headaches, and I don't feel like talking to my friends or playing outside with them.
  • I think you have been experiencing stress.
  • Stress is any emotional of physical tension. There are two types of stress. Eustress, which is stress that is beneficial for the experiencer, and distress which is extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain.
  • What is stress?
  • I think you are right, I probably am experiencing stress.
  • So, tell me somethings that are causing you to stress, in other words name some stressors.
  • Well homework, sports, and even my friends have been stressing me out lately.
  • Well the stress that you experience from school and sports is eustress. This means that the stress makes you push yourself to do your best even if its challenging.
  • Oh, I never thought of it that way. But could I still experience long term effects of stress?
  • Long term effects of stress like depression, anxiety, and obesity should not be any problem to you as long as you keep on trying your best in school and in sports, and if you keep healthly relationships with everyone you know.
  • But say if I keep on experiencing short and long term effects of stress, how would I manage or prevent my stress from getting worse?
  • One way you could manage stress is to take a walk outside, or view scenes of nature. Exposure to nature reduces fear, anger, and stress. It also reduces blood pressure, heart rate, and muscle tension. Another way to reduce stress is to do yoga. Yoga helps in easing the body and reducing anxious thoughts. I hope you have learned a lot, and stay healthy.
