Theseus, the Duke of Athens, is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta.
Egeus is angry with his daughter Hermia because she does not want to marry Demetrius. She is in love with Lysander instead.
Hermia and Lysander plan to run away.
Helena, Hermia’s friend, knows about the plan to run away and tells Demetrius.
Demetrius!!!
Hermia and Lysander head into the woods followed by Demetrius. Demetrius is followed by his admirer Helena.
A band of fairies live in the woods, led by King Oberon and Queen Titania.
As well as these magical beings, there are also craftsmen (the Mechanicals) rehearsing a play for Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding.
Puck is also ordered to use magic from a purple flower on the mortals walking in the woods.
Oberon and his wife are angry with each other, so Oberon commands his servant, Puck, to use magic to make Titania fall in love with the next creature she sees.
After a love potion is used, Lysander falls in love with Helena.
Then Demetrius also falls victim to Puck’s magic and he too falls in love with Helena.
Then Demetrius also falls victim to Puck’s magic and he too falls in love with Helena.
Demetrius and Helena marry and so do Hermia and Lysander. They have a triple wedding alongside Duke Theseus & Hippolyta.
The play finishes with the craftsmen performing their play at the triple wedding.
