George Washington commanded a force of 17,000 French and Continental troops against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and 9,000 British troops at Yorktown, Virginia.

George Washington coordinated his land and sea forces. Working with the French General, Washington was able to surround the British.
The outcome of the battle was that the British surrendered and lost the battle and war. On October 19, 1781, the British surrendered. The Britsh army was destroyed, and the American Revolutionary War was finally over.
Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War. America got its independence from Britain
