Vonnegut was trying to make the point about society and human nature that humans would do ridiculous things to pursue equality. Humans will limit themselves because they believe that the advantage they have is not fair to other people. Humans believe that everyone is equal, but that is not true. Everyone is different. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. No one can indeed be equal. On the other hand, we have people who believe they are invincible because of their advantages over others. The person believes they can do whatever they want because they have power. They live because the advantages they have over others give them power. Vonnegut condemns both these types of people. The ones with the ability choose not to use it, and those with power abuse it.
