- The great schism was the split between the Eastern Orthodox church and the Roman Catholic church in the west. The religious conflicts disagreements were made worse by a variety of conflicts like the power of Rome. This caused a divided Europe and it weakened the church and the faith in church.
- The people of Rome wanted Urban to be their pope and the French cardinals wanted a Frenchman to be the pope. They both denounced each other as the Anti-Christ. Church council removed the 2 popes and named 1 pope, whose power weakened.
