- Da grew up in Bree, with his parents and his sister, Lieda. He enjoyed it there most of the time, but sometimes the older boys bullied him. One day when he was about 8, he wished to be somewhere else, and he was.
- He found himself in a place he had never seen before, with fast moving things that looked like wagons, but completely covered and made of metal, with glass in them. There were houses, but they were nothing like the houses in Bree. And the clothes people were wearing, they were so unusual! He looked down and realized that he was wearing similar things. Then three people walked up to him, a man, a woman, and a girl. "Are you alright?" the woman asked, "You look very confused." "I don't know where I am, or how I got here!" Da cried. "Why don't you come with us?" the man suggested, "We'll take care of you until someone comes looking for you.
- But no one ever came looking for him. The family adopted him, but because he wouldn't tell them his name, they called him Danny. He lived with them for 8 years. During the day, he was fine. By the time he was ten, he fit into the new world pretty well. But at night, he had dreams, terrible dreams of fires and death in his old home. He knew he had to go back, but he didn't know how. He didn't know about the wish.
- Then on his sixteenth birthday, he made another wish. He wished to go back to the other world. And there he was! Back in Bree, on the corner of the road his old house was on. But there was no house left. A fire had burned the whole street down. "It happened years ago, dear," said an woman walking down the street, "my husband died in it. he went back in to rescue the picture of our son, who disappeared nearly 8 years ago. Come to think of it, he looked a bit like you." Then another woman ran up, younger than the first. Da knew at once that it was Lieda, she had hardly changed.
- "You!" Lieda exclaimed, "You look so much like my brother, but it cannot be so. He is...dead." Da was shocked. "Is that what they said? That I died?" he said, "But, I'm not dead, I'm right here! I just got...stuck for a while...somewhere...else." "You must prove that it is you! You must tell us something only my brother would know." "You," Da smirked, "Were madly in love with Ted Ferny when you were 8." Lieda hugged him. "It is you," she said, "Thank you for announcing that to the world!" she added, slapping him across the face. "Ow!" Da laughed.
- 4 years later on a trip, he met Mum, and they married and had me and Rian. But when we were two, I got sick, and they couldn't find anyone to cure it, so Da knew we had to go to the other world. They planned to return when I was better, so they left Rian with Aunt Lieda. We didn't come back. Rian told us that Aunt Lieda was killed when she lost her balance on the roof trying to fix a leak. He was 5. Rian grew up pretty much alone in Bree. But now we're all back together in Edoras.
