- Five Socs get out of a red Corvair, and surround Ponyboy. Pony waits impatiently as they threaten him with blades. "Need a haircut greaser?" They pinned him to the sidewalk, but shortly the gang came to Pony's rescue.
- Johnny was jumped by four Socs who scared him for the rest of his life after beating him to the ground. It changed him forever. Now, he is a nervous, quiet young man.
- Ponyboy and Johnny fall asleep in the lot after Cherry and Marcia left with their boyfriends and after Two-bit left for the casino to play something. When Pony wakes up it is past midnight and returns home. When he gets there, Darry is upset and ends up slapping him.
