27 female university students completed the Bem sex-role inventory (BSRI), a measure of 'masculine or feminine' perception.participants were also asked about maternal personality , reproductive ambition and career ambition.
BARI results showed women who saw themselves as more masculine had more testosterone... raised levels of testosterone also showed lower maternal personality and lower reproductive ambition.
femininity and career ambition had no links.
women's maternal tendencies are partly moderated by testosterone. Thus, maternal personality and reproductive ambition have biological bias rather than a social or psychological one.
-van goozen et al (1995) found transwomen taking oestrogen showed a decrease in aggressive behaviour and visuospatial skills, whereas transmen did the opposite. this shows that sex hormones have a huge impact on behaviour.-dabbs and Hargrove (1997) found that female prisoners who used aggression to assert dominance in prison settings ha raised levels of testosterone.- thus the effect of testosterone giving feelings of confidence on female behaviour may be true.
-research by slabbekoorne et al (1997) did not find consistent results to support this claim.-sex hormones are influential, but non-biological factors may be just as influential. (links to point 2 of green)
