  • Along with rich décor and sumptuous feasts, Indian weddings are lavish affairs that take place over multiple days with many guests. Festivities include gorgeous decorations, music, dancing, and delicious foods. The bride traditionally wears red as it symbolizes prosperity, luck, and fertility.
  • The national flag of India has three horizontal stripes: saffron (orange) at the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom. The saffron color represents strength and courage. White represents peace and truth, while green represents fertility, growth, and good fortune.

  • Animals native to India include the peacock, Himalayan wolf, Indian sloth bear, Bengal tiger, Indian Rhino, snow leopard, Asian elephant, many different breeds of monkeys, and the greater flamingo! Cows are considered sacred in India.
  • India is the world's largest producer of milk, pulses, and jute, the second largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, groundnut, vegetables, fruit, and cotton. It is also one of the leading producers of spices, fish, poultry, livestock, and plantation crops.

  • India is known for advances in art, architecture, religion, agriculture, math, astronomy, sanitation, and medicine dating back 4000 years. Sanskrit writing developed in 2000-600 BCE. Indian invented the concepts of zero, decimals, and more exact calculations of pi. In ancient India, physicians used medicinal plants and performed surgeries. Yoga was also developed to improve health in mind, body, and soul.
  • Major religions include: Hinduism, which believes in reincarnation, karma, nirvana, and three main gods that form one supreme god. It is the world's oldest major religion and the largest religion in India today. Buddhism preaches the 4 noble truths and the 8 fold path. It originated in India but spread throughout Asia and is still practiced today. Other major religions include Islam, Jainism, and Sikhism.
