- In 1848, the middle-class Germans tried to unite different regions of German confederation into a nation-state governed by elected parliament.
- WE SURRENDER!
- However, this was repressed by the armed forces of Monarchy. Otto Van Bismarck the chief minister of Prussia carried out the national unification with the help of Prussian army and bureaucracy.
- Three wars against Denmark, France and Austria in 7 years- ended in Prussian victory.
- This completed the process of unification.
- In January 1871, the Prussian king Kaiser William I was proclaimed as the emperor of the unified German Empire.
