The Stalingrad was a battle that occurred in WWII from Aug 23, 1942 – Feb 2, 1943. The Battle of Stalingrad was a brutal war between Russian forces and Nazi Germany and the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) It began with Nazi Germany desire to capture Stalingrad (now named Volograd) because the city had tons of factorys producing goods for the military such as artillery. When the war begun, the Nazi’s had the upperhand. Soviet Caustlies were increasing as months went by, cilivians were killed or captured and forced into slave labor camp in Germany.During the fall season in 1942, Stalingrad was in ruins. Joepsh Stalin encouraged the people to not retreat and continue fighting as he begun sending reinforcements into the city.When it became winter season, the Soviets knew the Nazis would be at a disadvantage. They trapped the Nazis as they formed a circle around them. Nazis infantry began to run out of ammunition but Hitler refused to retreat.By Feburary 1943, the Soviets were able to recapture Stalingrad and 100,000 Nazi soilders.
