- Rothenberg Germany: 1800s - Living as a 25 year old female in Germany around this time lead to very extensive oppression, desparate to rise above poverty our German character, Veronika, seeks to flee Europe and move to America.
- Searching for religious freedom and more likelihood for opportunity Veronika begins to plan a trek across Europe to the shore to travel by steamboat over to the the United States.
- With high hopes for equal opportunity and greener grass on the other side, the woman makes her way toward the shore, braving the wild and taking a huge risk to travel by boat to Ellis Island.
- Travel by steamship can be mildly treacherous, especially dangerous for such a young adult in unfamiliar territory. There was always the chance of disaster happening, anything from a shipwreck to an outbreak of illness could take any passenger's life.
- The trip feels as if it takes forever, and she spends this time reflecting on this decision and dreaming of ways to make a living where she will be arriving. Ideally she would love to use her passion for sewing and become a tailor.
- Upon her arrival into the US, Veronika notices immediately the amount of diversity on this land. Her English is semi-decent through her relatives, so it is a breeze for her to get moving.
- A collection of walking, horse riding, and taking trains helped Veronika to get to her destination and be with her family that she knew would accept her and help get her on her feet in this new territory.
- Finally our German immigrant is reunited with her English counterparts, safe and sound. The journey was not easy and isn't quite over yet; Veronika has much more growing and learning to do here in this foreign land she now calls home.
