- Orval Faubus sent Troops from the Arkansas national guard to prevent the students from entering the school. Angry white mobs formed around the school to intimidate the students.
- After a conference with Faubus, Eisenhower ordered him to remove the troops. Faubus left the school to the white mob. They beat 2 African American reporters and broke windows.
- Eisenhower sent U.S. army troops to federalize the Arkansas national guard. The troops had to stay there the rest of the year.
