  • In 1519 Piñeda mapped the Gulf of Mexico, he was from Jamaica, which was controlled by Spain. He gave us a record of the Texas Coast.
  • Coronado
  • In 1519, Cortés was famous for overthrowing the Aztecs and building Mexico City. He gained many riches for Spain but also went against their command and took Mexico.
  • La Salle
  • Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer that was on the Narvaez expedition, was shipwrecked in 1528 in Galveston, given food and shelter by the Karankawas, and arrived at Mexico City in 1536, telling stories of a lost city of gold, Cibola.
  • In 1540, 1000 men went on the Coronado expedition with Coronado, they discovered the Grand Canyon, Kansas, and the Pacific Ocean. Coronado felt like a failure to Spain because he didn't find any riches.
  • In 1685, La Salle, a French explorer, arrived in Matagorda Bay in Texas, and 45 out of 400 men survived, and he was killed by his own men. He made Spain interested in Texas again because he built forts there.
