The pope competed with the kings for power and would excommunicate them if they went against the popes commands.
The Roman Catholic Church sold indulgences. John Hus very much disagreed with the sale of indulgences.
Martin Luther wrote "95 Thesis" which was 95 arguments against indulgences.
In 1522, Luther traveled to Wittenberg Castle Church and began to organize a new branch of Christianity that became known as Lutheranism.
