It's 21 of June 1942. Erwin Rommel just broke through the defences of Tobruk and the British just gained their worst defeat yet in the African campaign and lowering the moral of the allies.
Ever since the defeat of the Italian army in 1941 east Africa, the allies have not had a decisive victory against the axis powers since. one man was infuriated by this, and that man was Winston Churchill.the germans where dangerously close to the Suez canal and on the door step of El Alamein, so Winston Churchill sent field marshal. Bernard law Montgomery.although Montgomery is very skilled and has endured many hard ships, he has yet to face his biggest challenge yet.
Field marshal Bernard law Montgomery is a famous and very successful British commander who served in the battle of Dunkirk, first second battle of El Alamein, battle of the Bulge, invasion of Sicily andSalerno in Italy, The Normandy landing and throughout western EuropeHe remains as one of the British army’s most successful commander in historyMontgomery has quite the history so let's start from his beginnings.Bernard law Montgomery was born in 17 November 1887 in Kennington, London. He was educated at St Paul’s school and the Royal military college at Sandhurst, and After attending the Royal military college he was sent to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in 1908. In 1914 Early into the first world war first battle of Ypres in 1914, He was shot through the lungs by a German sniper and was expected to die. So, they prepared a grave for him but surprisingly despite the sever wound he had, He went on to make a full recovery and went on to serve at the battle of Somme in 1916 and the battle for Passchendaele in 1917 as a staff officer. As a staff officer is when he observed the tactics of Douglas Haig the commander that has achieve some of Britain’s greatest victories but a very controversial person because of the tactics he used during WW1. skip a bit to the year 1942, at that point in time for Montgomery Dunkirk is the only major battle he has been in so far. He was going to command a bunch of soldiers that where fatigued, low on moral and low on supplies. if He is going to get everyone through this, he has to have courage, bravery, determination and be a great leader, fortunately he was all those things.
The Allies at that point where suffering plenty defeats and only saw success in attritional warfare and outlasting the Africa Korps.Montgomery said this speech before the battle.
“All that is necessary is that each and every officer and men should enter this battle with the determination to win to see it through to fight and kill and finally to win”.
Even though Montgomery was put against the odds and moral of allied Troops was not the best, He was able to Repel the Germans, Italians, and the African Korps under the command of Erwin Rommel.
Montgomery had Erwin Rommel and his forces on the run. unfortunately Montgomery was not able to catch up with Erwin Rommel, but it was a Massive victory for the allies and another of manyvictories for Montgomery.I’ve learnt that even when hells on your doorstep and stopping you from reach your goals that if you have the courage, bravery, and the determination even you can push it back and sour to great heights
