  • When the law was passed the law didn't do so well. The law didn't do well because people wouldn't pay the tax. Instead they would attack the tax collectors or they would threaten them. • An event that happened during the rebellion was the attack and The Destruction of Bower Hill. On the morning of July 16, 1794 a group of men had gone to the house of John Neville and told him that Lenox needed to go with them. However John didn’t believe them so shot into the coward. The next day 700 men went back to his house and asked Neville to surrender, however he had already escaped. So the mob asked the soldiers there protecting Neville to surrender and when they didn’t the mob opened fire and burn down houses after their leader died.
  • Hey Neville, Lenox has to come with us, it is for his own safety.
  • At first Washington opted for a peace envoy, however that didn't work. So Washington went to see his cabinet officials and they looked for evidence showing that the rebels were violent. Then they went to the Supreme Court and presented the evidence to them. James Wilson said that Washington could respond with military force.
  • Washington assembled a federal militia of 12,000 men. When they first met the rebels, the rebels told them that they weren’t needed. However Washington didn’t believe them so he marched into Western Pennsylvania. When they got there they were met with angry citizens, however there was little violence. Also a rebel army never showed up so the militia only rounded up people who looked like suspects.
