During the Winter at Valley Forge, there were freezing winters which let to shortages of food, clothes, etc. This caused lots of hunger and sickness throughout the town.

At Valley Forge, there were shortages of everything including food, medicine, and even clothes. This was caused by the cold winters.
Many soldiers were also exposed to many diseases and hunger. These diseases and starvation killed many of Washington's men.
Baron Fredrick con Steuben had the soldiers go through intense training. He trained them to act quickly on the battlefield, and march in mile-long lines.
