  • The topic that I will discuss today is all about the cell theory and people who discover it. Any one who can give me a wild guess who discover the cell theory?
  • ???
  • Is it Robert Hooke?
  • ????
  • That is correct. He is an English scientist who constructed the first compound microscope. He discovered a thin slice cork under the microscope and the first to visualize a microorgnism. In 1665, Hooked published his observations in a book entitled Micrographia.
  • They are Robert Hooke, Anton van Leeuwenhoek, Matthias Schleiden, Theodore Schwann and Rudolf Virchow.
  • The second person is Anton van Leeuwenhoek. He is a Dutch inventor, who claimed to have seen free cells and observed the nucleus within some red blood cellls.
  • More than 170 years after Hooke's discovery, two German scientists have also made observations on cells. Botanist Matthias Schleiden found that all plants were composed of living cells. His colleague, zoologist Theodore Schwann, concluded that all animals are compose of cells.
  • The third statement on the cell theory was added by Rudolf Virchow. It states that existing cells give rise to new cells. Now, can you name all the people who discover the cell theory?
