“Hi, I’m Sally Rock. I am here to inform you about the stages that rocks go through. Let’s go!”
“I first started as an igneous rock then over time I changed into sediments. This process is called weathering and erosion.”
“When weathering and erosion is happening, I break down into pebbles, sand and mud, creating sediments.”
“Now it’s time for me to become a sedimentary rock. First, I need to go through a process called compaction and cementation. Compaction is when sediments pile on top of each other.
“Now it’s time for me to become a metamorphic rock. I need to go through extreme heat and pressure to be able to change into a metamorphic rock. This stage happens when the rock is deep underground. I am now a metamorphic rock!”
“That is the stages of transforming from an igneous rock then sediments, then sedimentary rock and then finally to a metamorphic rock.”
“Then, cementation binds and hardens the sediments together. I got broken down along the coast line of the Gold Coast.”
