  • John Alexander Macdonald was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 10th 1815 to Hugh Macdoanld and Helen Shaw. After unsuccesful business ventures that left the family in debt, the family immigrated to Kingston, Ontario to to ecape debt.
  • At the age of 10, John was put into a grammar school but dropped out of school at the age of 15 (common age to leave school at that time). After John left school his parents decided John should study in law. John travelled to York (Toronto) where he passed an examination and quickley became a recognized lawyer for his cases. His law career was put on pause due to every male between the age of 18 to 60 being required to serve in the military.
  • On March 29, 1843, John Macdonald was elected as alderman in Kingstons fourth ward. Macdonald made proffesional and political advancments in his political career. Between 1846 to 1849, Macdonald was a Queen's council, solicitor general, reveiver general and was even re-elected as alderman. In 1857, MAcdonald departed to Britian to pitch Canadian government projects. Upon his return he was appointed to premier of the conservatives group
