  • Brutus's Speech - Ethos
  • If there be any in this assembly, any dear friend ofCaesar's, to him I say, that Brutus' love to Caesarwas no less than his.
  • Brutus's Speech - Pathos
  • "I depart,--that, as I slew my best lover for thegood of Rome, I have the same dagger for myself, when it shall please my country to need my death."
  • Brutus's Speech - Logos
  •  Had you rather Caesar were living anddie all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to liveall free men?
  • Brutus uses Ethos to start off his speech to persuade his audience into trusting him. He refers to himself as Caesar's friend which can give the listeners a sense of trustworthiness. This can also suggest that his "morals" for Rome were the most important priority to him.
  • Antony's Speech - Ethos
  • Brutus uses Pathos in his speech by suggesting that he would also kill himself for Rome.  This appeals to the listeners emotions and helps them understand his loyalty to Rome. This makes his audience trust that he is willing to do anything for the empire.
  • Antony's Speech - Pathos
  • Brutus uses Logos to further persuade the audience that Caesar needed to die or else everyone would have been miserable. He states that all the citizens of Rome would be enslaved when Caesar rose to power. Stating this testimony would make his listeners think rationally about if Brutus's choice to kill Caesar was reasonable or not.
  • Antony's Speech - Logos
  • I thrice presented him a kingly crown,Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?Yet Brutus says he was ambitious; And, sure, he is an honorable man.
  • Antony uses Ethos in the beginning of his speech to show he's a respectable friend of Caesar's. By telling the audience that he was friends with Caesar who was faithful to him, they can trust that he's a reliable person to speak about his death. This can also persuade the listeners that Brutus's reasons were justifiable considering he called Brutus honorable.
  • He was my friend, faithful and just to me:But Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honorable man.
  • Antony uses Pathos in his speech to show how affected he is by his friends death. He states that he is deeply saddened by the loss of Caesar which appeals to the audience's emotions. By showing his personal bias on his death, this can get more people against the conspirators.
  • And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
  • Antony uses Logos to persuade more people to be against the conspirators by contradicting what Brutus said. He states the fact that Caesar was more humble in his experiences than ambitious like Brutus states. This can help the audience rationalize between the two opinions and decide for themselves whether to support Antony or Brutus.
