Instead of moving across the sand normally the sidewinder uses and sideways motion where only apart of its body touches the ground. This is a much more efficient way of moving and allows it to avoid touching the hot sand as long. Sidewinder use their rattle tails as lures, attracted an unsuspecting lizard and then killing it. Speaking of their tails, their tails are hollow and make a shaking sound. This warns other animals to stay away.
