  • HUBRIS: Hamlet has been told of the bad omen that the ghost is bringing and both of his friends have pleaded not to follow it because it will only lead to danger. This is an example of excessive pride because it displays how Hamlet does not care about the advice of others and pursues his own goals with much risk at stake
  • Do not follow it, Hamlet, it will only lead to danger!

  • HAMARTIA: tragic error,frailty3.3.78-80, Hamlet decides not to kill Claudius while he is praying and to do so when he is committing a sin. This expresses a missed opportunity from Hamlet to strike revenge on Claudius for his father.
  • So art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear / I am thy father's spirit
  • PERIPETEIA: When Hamlet finally learns the truth about the ghost and is told that he must take revenge on Claudius for killing his Father. This communicates Hamlet's reversal in fate/fortune when he is cursed with a fate that he doesn't want to accept.
