  • The French and the English fought over the Ohio River Valley, which had fertile soil and was rich in resources. The British beleived they had a right to the land and the French did not want to share their fur-trading business.
  • The End of Quebec, 1759
  • The French had many Native American allies that helped them fight, because of this the British tried to make a treaty ith the Iroquois. The Iroquois refused an alliance but promised to remain neutral. Also, Benjiman Franklin wanted the colonies to unite but they were unwilling to do so.
  • Treaty of Paris, 1763
  • William Pitt, the prime minister of England, sent trained British troops to fight in the Americas. He also suspended the colonists taxes until the war was over.

  • Quebec was the capital of New France, it was very hard to attack because of its position. In 1759 the British found a path and defeated the French.
  • The Treaty of Paris marked the end of the French as a threat in North America. France was forced to give the British Canada, and most of its lands to the east of the Mississippi River.
  • The defeat of France was not good for the Native Americans. King George declared that the colonists were not allowed to setle est of the Applachian Mountains. He sent British troops to enfroce this, this made the distrust between the colonies and Britian grow. Also, a Native American chief, Pontiac and his tribes attacked British forts and settlements. He agreed to a peace treaty with the British in 1766.
