The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field
Though it is the smallest of all seeds...
Yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree...
So that birds come and perch in its branches.
The mustard seed was the tiniest of all the seeds, but it grew to be a massive plant. This is Mark's third growth fable. In this parable, Jesus teaches that, despite the fact that the Kingdom of God began tiny, it will grow and spread over the world with Jesus and the disciples, attracting a limitless number of followers.
