- Grendel is the son of cain, he is wrathful and hates the light. Grendel is pure darkness. The monster is angered by Hrothgar's hall (Herot) and slaughters all the men after dark in it sparking a hero's interest
- Grendel's mother
- Hrothgar is the grandson of the dead Nordic king Scyld, he has a dream to build a grand hall for himself and his people. He accomplishes this however he has a dream that a monster will terrorize Herot, Grendel the monster indeed does.
- Wiglaf
- Beowulf is the nephew of the king of Geatland, he hears of the tragedy that Grendel has caused in Herot and sets out to be a great hero and defeat any challenge he is faced with.
- Grendel's mother is a black serpent that snaps when her son is killed by Beowulf, she wants to avenge her son's death by killing Beowulf and his knights. She lives in a cave underwater.
- Wiglaf is the son of Weohstan who shows soldiers to pity a slave caught in a petty crime. He boasts he is brave and they send him to slay the firedrake (a dragon). He kills the dragon with the assisstance of beowulf.
