Loki the trickester god has three children with a giantess, their children were a wolf, a snake and a half dead and half alive girl. but the Asgardian thought that they were dangerouse so took them away from the giantness
The snake was thrown into the oceans of Midgard
The girl was banished to the underworld
Aesir wanted to keep an eye on one of them, so they took wolf to Asgard.
The wolf becoming vicious while it grows bigger, it was feed by Tyr, the god of law and war. It's scary that no one would like to take care of it, and they try to chain it up twice.
They told the wolf that it's only a test of strength, and it will be rewarded with meats and fame if it breaks out. They thought the chain they made will hold it, but it breaks out both times.
Because of the wolf breaks out of the chain last two times, they asked dwarves for help, the dwarves made a enchanded thread to put on his neck. This time the wolf had assumed the gods just want to tie it up. When Tyr put his hand in it's jaw, the wolf bites off Tyr's hand.
Thats why Tyr only has one hand. This story tells us that don't trust anyone lightly.
