- “It’s all right, officer,“I’m justwaiting for a friend. It’s an appointment made twenty yearsago. Sounds a little funny to you, doesn’t it? Well, I’llexplain if you’d like to make certain it’s all straight. Aboutthat long ago there used to be a restaurant where this storestands—‘Big Joe’ Brady’s restaurant.”
- “Twenty years ago tonight,“I dined hereat ‘Big Joe’ Brady’s with Jimmy Wells, my best chum andthe finest chap in the world. He and I were raised here inNew York, just like two brothers, together. I was eighteenand Jimmy was twenty. The next morning I was to start forthe West to make my fortune. You couldn’t have draggedJimmy out of New York; he thought it was the only place on Earth.
- It sounds pretty interesting.
